Never thought this would be the reason of rejection

Let’s start this journey with “How I heard about it?”. It’s all started when I am in 3rd semester of college. One day scrolling the LinkedIn and I saw a post about a hackathon going to happen in December (in my winter vacation) organized by Major League Hacking (MLH). So, I visited the given link and read about the MLH and told about the hackathon to my friends and we registered together. Due to some problem I am not able to attend it, but my friend not only he attended but also won the hackathon.

He shared the photos of hackathons or his experience and that motivated me to search more about the MLH and register for their newsletter. Thanks to the newsletter from which I get to know about the MLH fellowship program.

MLH fellowship is a 12-week internship program where aspiring developers make a team and contribute together in open source programs. Lot’s of learning, fun, and networking with other developers.

First time, when I applied not selected because all the slots are filled and that disappointed me, I lost this opportunity to contribute in open source community. But no problem, I will get more opportunities and I keep doing building projects and learning new tools.

Then, I got the mail that the MLH started taking applications for the Fall season and also giving priority to the applicant those applied for the previous batch. I got excited after reading the mail. Updated my previous application and submitted again (Second time) for the fall batch and just after the 5 days of the notification that my application is under review, I got an email to schedule my first interview hurrah!! 🥳

So, I don’t want to miss it and scheduled for the very next day in afternoon. After the completion of the interview I got a follow-up mail that I will hear the results in next 5 business days. But I didn’t hear anything from them then I thought to contact and ask about my application status. See the reply below.

Once again not selected (Third time) and application shifted for the Spring batch. Ugh! okay, no problem, after months I got a mail to schedule the second and final round of interview which is the technical interview.

Where the interviewer discuss about the projects (WhatsApp Chat Analyzer thanks to Dataquest community from where I got the idea to build) you have submitted at the time of application and ask some questions related to that. I scheduled it after the two days, the interview goes well I’m so happy and pretty sure that I will get selected this time. But Unfortunately, after careful review, we have decided to reject your application at this time and the reason behind rejection which I never thought.

Yes, this is frustrating after the long wait, this is how I got rejected. I was very sad that day. During the interview, I got disconnected for very small amount of time because of the 100% ram consumption due to some backend applications my system close all the processes (I got disconnected) and then suddenly, I opened the browser and open the meeting tab from history and gets connected. Disconnection not because of any internet issue.

After writing mails and convincing them to schedule other interview to check my remote setup but due to overwhelming demand from students, they cannot reconsider the rejected applications. 😢

This is my journey of small rejection there may be more but I will keep learning and exploring. 🙂

Thank you for reading.
